. . . Cruising aboard "Skips Trips" !
On
my 2 hour nature tour and the 1 hour shrimp trip, you will see how shrimping
is done in the bays of Alabama. As we cruise along in Wolf Bay,
Captain Skip will pay out our shrimp net from the stern of "Skips Trips". You'll learn about the history of shrimping in Alabama.
Skip will tell you about the three main types of shrimp we catch
here. You'll learn about the life cycle of shrimp and the depth of
waters in which they are caught.
As
we are shrimping, we might be followed by dolphin. They are very
curious and are usually around to catch any of the escaping by-catch.
As
we bring in the net you will see many different varieties of fish, crabs,
and what shrimpers call the by-catch. We have brought up and released
stingrays,sqid,jellyfish,octopus,shells,and of course,shrimp.We'll
put our catch into an aerated aquarium where everyone can help identify
it.By now we are usually being followed by gulls, brown pelicans, royal
terns, and sometimes dolphin! You'll be able to check-off the items
you see on the wildlife lists that we provide at the beginning of
the trip.
On
the way back, we will finish identifying and release
the catch.
The
entire trip is done in protected waters....bays and bayou's.
